I'm always fascinated by the various search terms and questions entered by people which lead them to my little blog here. Sometimes it's a bit frustrating as well -- since I'd love to have a chance to actually answer those questions out loud. I've decided to remove at least a little bit of the frustration by answering some select queries regularly. Woo!
Now on to this month's questions:
Readers from South Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, and four surfers from whereabouts unknown have all come to the blog this month searching for information on Ballard's Cornbread Mix.
I share your pain. Our family Thanksgiving oyster stuffing recipe calls for Ballard's specifically (everything else is too sweet) and I just don't know if we can go on without it. Yes, we have to go on without it. Ballard's is no more. I have read a few internet tips and tricks (including one from the distributor) suggesting that Martha White's cornbread mix will work in any Ballard's recipes. I have yet to test this myself.
A reader from Princeton, New Jersey wants to know if shoe and crown moulding should be the same color.
Uhm. Not necessarily. Of course it all has to do with your sense of style... But a traditional black-shot white crown moulding - matching baseboards - and a contrasting richly stained shoe (try a warm red oak for a classic look) is stunning, in my opinion. Should your crown and baseboards be the same color? Yes - absolutely... Unless you're designing for one of those TLC primetime shows where the homeowners are going to repaint as soon as the cameras are packed up anyway.... I believe what's most important in the shoe moulding department is that it either a) matches the baseboards (which would mean, by default, that it matches the crown moulding) or b) matches or compliments the flooring -- especially when it comes to wood flooring.
To the reader from New York, New York who asked the question: "Did people survive Hurricane Katrina?"
Yes. Some people survived. As a matter of fact, I'm one of them. At least, so far.

I was watching CNN weather tonight and when there was no way to not mention our area he said... New Orleans may possibly flood as well as Pensacola, FL. and Mobile, Al. So the poor person from New York thinks the entire state of Mississippi was wiped out.
