The jacuzzi didn't go in today. It was the drain's fault.
The old tub surround was severely off-level. Tile was also applied directly to the two-by-four frame with no green board or backerboard installed. Also - the tile was installed after the tub went in. That was the old tub.
Before installing our new tub - we've had the surround levelled properly and backerboard installed - both of which raised the surface of the surround almost an inch and a half overall. In addition we've installed the tile first - and the tub will actually rest on that -- adding at least another half inch plus mortar.
This is all dandy... However, the old drain flange thing was sitting (anchored in concrete) about two inches below where it needed to be for the new tub installation. That's enough of a difference to make it impossible to drain the tub - but not enough to leave a lot of room for rerouting the drain.
It took a little while - but eventually Dean was able to work around it and get the drain in the right place. Of course by then it was too late to actually drop-in the tub today.
The plan is to try again at installing the tub tomorrow morning.
In the meantime, I got a call from our painter letting me know that he wouldn't actually be able to start again tomorrow - but hopes to be here Wednesday.
It's a cycle. I know it is. One of those cycles where everything seems to stop. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that it's a 24-hour bug and we'll be back on track in the morning.
