At 2 a.m. this morning we were too tired to keep wiping down the floor and gave up. The floor itself was mostly clean -- but we were a bit puzzled by the fact that the incredibly dark grout I picked for the floor (you can see how dark it is in the previous grouting photo) - looked like it was drying a light beige color....
This morning - it had indeed all dried beige. Go figure. I knew there was a reason I was dreading the grouting part of all of this. We drove by the Carpet and Tile store this morning to pick up a sample of the grout I originally picked to make sure we hadn't just forgotten the color... and Dave talked to the owner there about the incredibly light grout. He said that the problem might be one of mineral deposits caused by the water used to mix the grout... and suggested scrubbing the grout with abrasive pads (all 475 square feet worth of grout) or possible using an acid treatment. Since we don't want to take the chance right off the bat with acid ruining our tile... We thought we'd try the scrubbing first...
But after seven hours of floor scrubbing last night starting just minutes after paying a couple thousand dollars for our floor to be finished... We really aren't up to a lot of backbreaking labor tonight.
Here's to a night off.
