USATODAY.com - On Deadline: Archives

USATODAY.com - On Deadline: Archives: "Please just shut up about Katrina! I am sick and tired of people blaming the government for their own stupidity. If a category 5 hurricane is coming at you, baton down the hatches and get out of town. If you live on the coast below sea level and a storm floods you out, too bad! You were the person who decided to take the risk to live there. If you did not have insurance on your property, too bad. Don't come crying and expect the tax payer to bail you out when the inevitable occurs. It has nothing to do with race. It boils down to taking responsibility for your own actions. If I were running the show you wouldn't get a nickel from the government. What happens when the next hurricane hits? Do we the taxpayers have to pay billions more because you like living below sea level? If you live in a flood plain, either have insurance or MOVE! Either way, don’t expect hand outs from the government when nature comes and tries to swallow your town again.

Unfortunately, Bob is not alone. The comments regarding the USAToday poll are mostly nasty at best.
The only posters who show compassion are obviously biased -- they're from the Louisiana or Mississippi Gulf
Coast.
