From the Mississippi Press: "We were not going to let the storm stop us," said Darcie Crew, director of Parks and Recreation for the city of Pascagoula.

Crew said the city lacked the funds to support the traditional fireworks display and the local businesses stepped in to help at the request of the Pascagoula City Council.

"The councilmen thought the show should go on," Crew said. "And they wrote letters and just asked the businesses for help. We had an overwhelming response and got everything we needed."

And more.. I tried to take pictures on my camera's snazzy 'fireworks' picture-taking mode but all I ended up with were some pictures like those you could find on one of those 'mysteries of the unexplained' television shows... So then I cheated and started videotaping. I figured there would be enough room for the ten or fifteen minutes of show. After twenty minutes, my arm was really sore. Now, I didn't tape the whole thing -- but the three segments I do have come to just over 30 minutes...

It was great fun and many, many thanks to those Pascagoula businesses for making it possible.

You'd think the boys would have had enough of fireworks for a night... but... well - they're young boys. That's just not the case. So after the babies were in bed I called them down to sneak out with me and shoot a few bottlerockets and light some sparklers. (I know I know - no fireworks in the city limits this year.. I'm such a rebel...)

If my level of total and utter exhaustion this morning is any indication of how much I enjoyed yesterday -- then I had a blast.

Hope ya'll had a happy 4th.

Anita it really was enjoyable and I am so glad you were able to video the fireworks. Mine looked liked those you describe as some unknown mystery when viewed years later.... the tons of fried chicken was not bad either!!!
