What to Do?

I keep wondering that... What to do now? We aren't able to work inside the house anymore at this point. We are waiting to hear from a local contractor we like who might actually be able to come out and give us a giant estimate for making the remaining repairs. We are waiting to see what happens with the Homeowner's Grants, you see. We must wait to apply... and then wait to see whether or not we qualify. If we do qualify.. then we must wait to find out what exactly we qualify for... and then wait to actually get it. After that -- whether we get a grant or not -- we'll have to wait for materials to become available... and wait for contractors (who will most likely actually be swamped by such time) to find the time to come work on our house....

I'm not good at waiting at all.

Sooo... I did what anyone else in our situation would do: I went out and bought an enormous bucket-like thing.

And spent the weekend making a pond.

It still needs some moss and some fish and such... and lots of surrounding vegetation... But I like it just the same.

The back-breaking labor was good for me as usual. Tomorrow I shall be in traction -- but it will have been worth it.

Dave apparently was feeling left out -- and today I found him teetering on a tall ladder in a life-threatening sort of way cleaning out our gutters.

I complained a little... maybe a lot.. because he made an enormous mess all around the patio where I had spent several days cleaning -- but I suppose it worked out okay as an opportunity for some more mind-numbing back-breaking labor. Er and it's obvious that the gutters really did need to be cleaned out.

The gutter-goop was composed of bits of shingle, flecks of asphalt, lots and lots of nails, leaves, a couple of small toys, rocks, and mud. Hmmm... How did the mud get all the way up there anyway?

Yes - in case you're wondering, we are sort of scraping for things to do. Tomorrow we will find something else. We have to. I have decided that staying busy keeps us sane... or at least too busy to be crazy... or maybe too busy to notice any lack of sanity on our part... Or maybe the business itself should be taken as an indication of mental lapse...

Now I am confusing and scaring myself...

I should go do something.

Oh Anita, the pond looks great. One word of advice .... I had a pond years ago and my cats ate the fish. LOL

Uh oh... I hadn't thought of that... The pond would quickly become a fresh food buffet around here. The cats are already regularly checking it out -- and, silly me, I thought they were just looking at their own reflections...

Zounds, the pond looks much better than what I had been thinking of! Hmm fish or no fish...you could just put in water lilies and such. Btw, my peace plant continues to lose a leaf, and then grow one to replace it, but it's not really flourishing, Konji is though. Maybe you could get turtles! Do cats eat turtles?

Oh turtles are a great idea!! I love turtles. And I know for a fact that cats do not eat turtles -- no matter how hard they try. :p Bah it will seem bizarre to purchase a turtle after a childhood filled with catch and release of thousands of the buggers... We shall see!

Aha!! See? That betta/peace lily symbiosis seems a little lopsided doesn't it? I'm glad to hear Konji is doing well... Need to see some new pictures to show all the glorious color hint hint.

I have the pictures, but the laptop has yet to be returned, and Im too scared to put new programs on this one.

Pictures will come...eventually, but they will come!

Do you have to periodically refill the pond, or is there a water line to it? My neighbor has some gorgeous water lilies in his pond.

We have to periodically add water to the pond - especially in the summer heat when we have a few days without rain.

It's funny that you should stop on this post - because just the other day we finally got around to moving the pond. As much as we liked how it looked where it was - we had our hearts set on keeping at least a couple goldfish or guppies... but that location with absolutely no shade and the black pond liner in coastal Mississippi meant the water was really, really HOT.

We actually moved it to our front porch - strange, I know - which makes it more of a fountain than a pond at the moment. I'm sure I'll be posting a pond update when it's all together.
