I'm afraid to say the heat has driven me indoors today... What happened to my heat stamina anyway? It gets hotter. Much, much hotter. It isn't even summer yet.

I was out with my Hound Dog Steppin' Edger getting ready to tackle edging the sidewalks in the front yard... I was feeling proud that we had opted to not replace the gasoline-powered edger that was flooded during Katrina. People used to plant their own food, I thought. People had to break the dirt with basic tools and their bare hands, I thought. I can do this. I will return to my roots... I think I will edge the flowerbeds when I am done, I thought.

I edged two-and-a-half feet before I suggested to Yvonne that we go inside to put some cooler clothes on. I threw on some shorts and the most thread-bare t-shirt I could find -- piled my hair on the top of my head and wrapped a scarf around the whole thing. After finishing a glass of iced tea - I slathered sunscreen all over the two of us and we set out again.

It wasn't long before I was feeling tempted to hop in the van and slap down a credit card on the first available gas-powered edger.

Look how it just fades off into the distance....

Let's just say I edged considerably more than two-and-a-half feet on the second try -- but substantially less than what is needed to finish the job. Third attempt is scheduled a little closer to sunset.

I came in just in time to get an email from Dave. I'm sure that if I post his emails to the blog too many times he will stop sending them... But sometimes it's just so much easier when he has done the typing for me:

"Hi Anita. I just talked to a SBA customer service rep about our loan denial and re-applying and here's what he told me. He said the final decision was made in October so we have until April 8 to request reconsideration. The reconsideration is based on improvement of income and/or reduced debt. I think we have that. We have to send a letter requesting reconsideration and include pay stubs and debt payoff receipts and fax it in."

This is good news, maybe! But it doesn't give us much time to reapply. Wish us luck.
