I'm sure there are a few of you out there wondering whatever happened with our laundry room. I'm not sure why you are wondering about such things -- but I completely understand... We internet-type folks find ourselves following stories such as this with great interest. One of us should get a government grant and study this phenomenon, I think....
Uh.. but back to the laundry room...
When we last saw the laundry room we had completed the saltillo tile -- including the application of 45 or so coats of sealer. Dave & I moved the washer and dryer back into the room just about the time we realized that William had been wearing the same shirt for three days. Well - okay - that was probably purely coincidental. If left to his own devices - William would probably wear the same shirt for the next two or three months. I just happened to notice he was wearing the same shirt for three days and it reminded me that I had a lot of laundry to do.
The cabinets for the room were already mostly assembled -- so the obvious next step in completing the room would be to install those.... and we almost did. We brought in the base cabinets and put them roughly in place. Then we stood back and admired them. Then we went to bed. That was over a week ago. In the meantime, we were both distracted by all sorts of other things... Which was unusual for me... I was wondering why I wasn't obsessing about getting those cabinets stuck to the walls.
Subconsciously, I must have realized something wasn't quite right. And a good thing, too.
We went out this afternoon and finally got those anchors to install the cabinets -- but when we got home and I looked at the cabinets again, it hit me: the base cabinets are not the right size.
It's not the store's fault this time -- these are the cabinets we ordered.. but at some point we must have gotten confused about the depth of the base cabinets. We needed something with a minimum 21 inch depth... these cabinets are only 16" deep -- the same as the wall cabinets. Since the plan was to install a countertop so that I would have a workspace for crafty projects -- this is not going to work.
A minor stumble. *twitch*
We can't return these cabinets as they are already mostly assembled, the no-hassle return period has now passed, and there was no error on the store's part for this one. It's all good though. We have many other rooms to complete and I'm sure we can use these skinny little cabinets elsewhere -- if not, I'm sure we can find a family in the area who could use them.
We will now have to restart the cabinet-ordering process and the cabinet-assembly process and the cabinet-missing-part-ordering process all over again...
I'm now going to have a cup of coffee at 9:05 pm and cackle hysterically until the dog gives me that look he gives me when he's sure I've lost my mind.

You are used to getting those looks from the dog, aren't you?
Just a thought, but is there room in Yvonne's room for the cabinets. A mini laundry center might be an amazing tool *Cackle* Okay nm, I'm not advocating child labour, at least not till I have my own.
Anyway, do they have matching cabinets that are deeper, or is that a problem too?
Yes, Swap -- I am used to those looks from the dog. *shame*
I'm kind of thinking of using the shallow cabinets in the laundry room as well... there is room - why not? We'll move them around and see what we can do. Finding the deeper cabinets that matched was a bit of a problem -- the same manufacturer does not make them... But we did find some that blend pretty well. I would never use them all in the same room if we were talking about my kitchen or even a bathroom.... But since this is simply the laundry/mud room... I think it will be okay.
And Mary -- I am stockpiling dimmer switches. Every time we go to Lowe's I buy one. Soon I will solve my overhead light woes. *bwahaha*
