Report: Government-Wide Katrina Failings - Yahoo! News: "On Monday, the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee was to continue its own investigation into the Aug. 29 storm response by examining potentially widespread abuse in federal emergency cash assistance programs for disaster victims. Up to 900,000 of 2.5 million applicants received aid based on duplicate or invalid Social Security numbers, or false addresses and names, congressional investigators found."
Yikes... that's a pretty big chunk of false claims. What ever became of the other 900,000 actual hurricane victims, I wonder?

So they weren't able to muster up a proper response to the whole disaster, nor were they even able to allocate funds properly. Why doesn't that surprise me! Actually, when you read the whole article, the funds going astray comes as no surprise in a series of ineptitude. The whole things continues to make me sick.
Naomi's mention of people trying to help being turned away is no new story either. Every time I read one of the links (like this one)that you mention in your posts, my blood starts to boil :(
Hugs,
