Sees salt dome as worst disaster since Katrina: "The plan that is moving forward -- listen closely for the sound of a steamroller -- is to hollow out a salt dome near Richton and fill it with 160 million barrels of oil for use in a national emergency. The impact to Jackson County will come from the method to be used to hollow out the salt dome. Fifty-million gallons of fresh water will be pumped from the Pascagoula River per day, for five years, to be used to dissolve the salt. Guess where the salt brine/slurry will be pumped? Into the waters right out from Jackson County. More precisely, just south of Horn Island, near the Horn Island Pass."

That salt dome storage sounds absolutely crazy. I hope that didn't happen.
Kind of like trying to put an LNG storage facility in the middle of densely populated Rhode Island, which if the LNG facility had an accident or was harmed on purpose, would kill people for miles around instantly.
How did we get a government composed of idiots? Does idiocy naturally rise to the top or something. Hello, Thomas Jefferson? Ben Franklin?
Still lots of meetings and grumblings and red tape going on... But despite lots of public outrage - it looks like they'll go forward with this idiotic project.
I just wish the whole world could see the Pascagoula River just once before it's completely destroyed...
I often ask myself the same question, trudy. How'd we get here?
