Well - we finally have a bed again. It didn't come when it was supposed to, but it eventually made it. It's nice to sleep off the ground where the dog can't stare at us all night... and I was getting paranoid about the big black shiny beetles that we're finding everywhere. The flood must have washed them out of somewhere. Scary armageddon looking beasts.
The air conditioners were repaired today - mostly thanks to a lot of donations from friends from all over the place and family as well. We'll make payments on the balance until we find the money to pay it off.
Speaking of donations there have been so many! Our good friend Luba has been working tirelessly to help us and good people from www.pets.ca and others from Luba's forum as well have been sending what they can. It's really been a pick me up to have so many people who don't even really know us trying to help. They actually managed to get a Wal-mart gift card to us. It has helped tremendously to be able to pick up some of the necessary items we don't have the cash for and those that can't be found at any donation centers -- like pillows and towels. Lots of pillows and towels.
And last week we had gone out to try to buy a washer and dryer. We had one on order and it would be a week before they could deliver it - but that's better than nothing... But then the next day one of Dave's coworkers offered us a washer and dryer. We cancelled the order and we now have a working set to wash all of those baby clothes -- not to mention the new towels. I'm so amazed at how sweet people can be. Dave comes home almost every day with a box of food or a bag of diapers and others have sent baby clothes and so on. Our friend Pia has finally gotten in touch as well and she picks up diapers for us wherever she sees them.
We are getting used to the house as it is... And we barely miss the walls and the floors. We're reminded when the dog walks through one of the walls or Yvonne skins her knees in the living room -- but it's not so bad. We realize how lucky we are - to have what we have left... We did not lose our cabinets and our sheetrock is only removed halfway up the walls. We keep forgetting that the upstairs is damaged as well though. We were reminded when we thought again about moving everyone up there and realized it smells of mold and mildew. The ceilings and most of the walls are water-damaged and all of the light fixtures have rusted and shorted out. I've wiped down the walls and the baseboards and have managed to kill the mold and everything has dried out now - so I am pretty sure it's safe now but it is going to take a lot of work someday to fix it. We'll have to get some walls and floors downstairs first.
