Today's Uncompensated Endorsement

Although I'm aware that many other bloggers (probably those bloggers with the most sense among us) review products on their blogs for a fee or otherwise run paid advertisement posts in some manner - I don't. Other than the occasional Amazon.com or Google Ad on the sidebar - the blog parallels real life in a simple way: I don't get paid.

Therefore, when you do see me singing the praises of something on the blog please keep in mind that the sole reason for the praise-singing is that some product, place, or person impressed me so much that I had to share it here.

With all of that said - please allow me to move on to today's rave: My Bissell SpotBot. I have mentioned this dandy gadget elsewhere on the blog and I must admit that I didn't just start loving it today... However, it just so happens that when the thing proved its worth once again - I happened to have the camera nearby.

It all started when Mom was on her way out after a pleasant visit and a cup of coffee this afternoon. I should have realized that the girls were being a little too quiet in the living room.
We stopped through that room so that Mom could say her goodbyes and discovered that the girls had moved their HelloKitty table and chairs into the middle of the area rug and were having a tea party... With real 'tea'. Yes yes - how precious. Uh... but you must understand that the girls' version of real 'tea' consists of water obtained from some bathroom fixture mixed with kid grime from who knows where resulting in a murky black mystery liquid. I promise that I was inwardly relieved when it was apparent that none of this brew actually reached the mouths of my little girls because it was all over the living room floor.

What sort of lunatic installs an off-white area rug in a house with five kids and a dog?
Oh. That's right. It was me.

So Mom hurried off so I could get to work cleaning up the mess... And after a few minutes of convulsions and maybe a tear or two - I remembered my precious SpotBot. We all picked up the tea party dishes and moved the table back to the girls' room before I tackled the floor -- meaning the stains had a few extra minutes to set.

But then I grabbed the SpotBot - filled the cleaning chamber with hot water - added a capful of peroxide (not suggested unless you have creamy colored carpeting to begin with!) - plugged it in... Swish swish swipe... Five minutes later:

Poof!

And that is why I love this gadget -- my family loves it too.... If stains come out of the carpet without backbreaking labor.. Mom is happy! If Mom is happy - everyone is happy!

Other nifty things about this little device: It's perfect for cleaning up medium sized spills on any surface without soiling all of your towels. It's terrifically easy to set up, clean out, and use. It does have a hands-free mode for cleaning sudden messes during the most hectic times. Includes a self-stored cleaning brush and hose (pictured!) that's great for hard-to-clean areas like stairs or car interiors (including kids' car seats!).

Before you rush out and buy one - there are a few cons as well: In hands-free mode the unit cleans a circle of carpet approximately 8 inches in diameter and will clean it almost too well if the rest of your carpet isn't pristine. (i.e. you'll end up with hyper clean 8 inch circles all over your carpet if this is the only cleaning method you use....) Also - like any other steam cleaning device I've ever used - there is a tendency for water from the catch basin to back up through the gasket if it becomes overfilled OR if you completely run out of cleaning solution during a cycle - meaning it can leak dirty water back onto your carpet if you aren't careful.

However, if you're like me and were crazy enough to put cream-colored flooring in some living space in your home... and if living things walk through that living area on a regular basis... Then I would highly recommend one of these for emergency cleanups.

As for regular maintenance, I like to use the Capture Carpet Cleaning dry clean system at least once a month... but that's another post. :)

Ha! But this is great!
Is it a Real Bot? Like, with its own intelligence and hardwired to the 3 Laws?
1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2. A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
~from "Runaround", 1942 short story by Issac Asimov.

It is worth asking...I mean, what does it do while you sleep? Probably nothing soooo Just Don't Worry About It OK? Really. I'm sure it just sits in the closet. Right? You don't leave it plugged into a charger do you?
Rut'row...

I want one NOW!
