The carpet part, anyway. Having brand new carpet on the stairs reminds me that we still need to touch up and refinish parts of the staircase that either got totally neglected or merely swiped at by
Dean & Crew last year.

The carpet guys graciously pose for a picture with their handiwork.

Why is it that we're always seeming to get stuff done in areas of the house that are SO hard to photograph? The pictures from downstairs looking up are as bright as I can get them without letting the flash go off and totally distorting the actual colors. As usual - I ask you to use just a little imagination. And now for the recap...

BEFORE: More specifically, before being removed but after Katrina.

ALSO BEFORE: That is, before being replaced but after being removed after Katrina.

AFTER: As in today... A true after picture.

A LITTLE MORE AFTER: After the guys left and I could go upstairs
to take a picture in the light to show the actual color and texture of the carpet on the stairs.

Wow you picked such a lovely color for the stairs! Its gorgeous!
Looks great Anita ... a very pretty color. It certainly will make for a softer walk and fall should that happen. I have always worried about those stairs. lol I think George fell so many times that he got good at it .. kinda slid down on his stomach. lol
I have to ask, why the carpet is wider down the bottom than in the top section? Is this some southern thing :-)?
Great color and texture, I cam see why you picked it.
Thanks, ya'll!
LOL karen anne... I was actually wondering the same thing myself earlier today when I was uploading the pictures!! It has become apparent to us now that the previous owner/builder had a tendency to lean to the right a bit in everything she did... so it's no wonder the stairs do the same funky thing. The only logical explanation is that the stairwell is narrower between the walls at the top... and then of course gets wider once it opens to the room halfway down the stairs where the banister starts... i.e. the previous owner/builder didn't design it right. :)
I think it would have worked out okay if she hadn't installed the decorative wood treads on either side of the carpet in the narrow space at the top... Then the carpet would have been the same width all the way down....
Hmm on second thought that wouldn't work at all.... I'm not sure what she did... or - more importantly - why she did it. Sometimes it's like living in the Winchester house, only without about 145 of the rooms and a lot of the charm.
Okay - it's nothing like living in the Winchester house.. but it's midnight and I've had a long day.
The stairs look lovely... SO glad (and I bet you are, too) that you don't have 145 rooms! LOL
