Horn Island, which is designated as a Wilderness Area, has been greatly untouched since Hurricane Katrina in order for nature to regrow as naturally as possible. The island's beaches are accessible for recreational activities, within the guidelines of preserving a wilderness area.

My favorite quote from the article from U.S. Park Service ranger Ben Moore:

"What you're seeing here is natural," said Moore, who has lived on the island since 1992. "If we're asked to replant a tree, we're planting trees where man thinks trees will grow."

I'm very excited to find someone charged with the duty of protecting our natural resources who actually understands what 'natural' is. Kudos. I realize that we're all impatient... The hurricane changed the face of our forests, our islands, our bayous... And we all long to see the beauty return. But this is what hurricanes do in the natural world... They cull, reshape, and make new. I suppose we all need to learn to find beauty in that very process.
