If it ain't broke

Excellent news on the home repair front. A fellow from Blythe's Plumbing came out this afternoon to give us an estimate on taking out the leaking shower/tub unit upstairs and replacing it. At least, that's what he was planning on doing. However, when he saw the unit was in basically new condition he stopped to ask us exactly why we were considering replacing it.

We explained the previous visit from Blythe's folks - and how from the water collecting on the outside of the shower we just had to assume there were leaks somewhere although we couldn't find them what caused the huge water stain on George's wall.

With that, he asked permission to maybe cut an extra hole or two in the wall to try once more to find those leaks.

I'm happy to say he believes he found the leaks and it's quite simple. Apparently, it's leaking around the bath faucet handles and spout. The new opening in the wall gave us a pretty clear picture -- and we were really, really surprised at just how much water comes through those tiny openings when the shower is running. After a lot of caulk (he wanted to be sure) and instructions to wait 24 hours or more for it to completely set up -- he told us that he's pretty sure it won't be leaking anymore. Once it dries we're going to let the boys start using that shower again --just to check things out-- before we close up the wall on the other side.

I'm completely thrilled about this new development because this means all we have to focus on to remodel the upstairs bathroom is the floor, the paint, a new toilet, and some new light fixtures. What do these things have in common? That's right! Three letters: D I Y.

Don't be surprised if I'm breaking out the Kilz primer at one o'clock tomorrow morning.

This post was very prophetic. We broke out the Kilz primer about 11 pm the day you wrote this post. I didn't know you wrote it until just now.

I was off in my prediction by a couple of time zones.

See how predictable we've become, honey?
