10:00 am: All is quiet.

10:15 am: The countertop guys arrive and start unpacking.

10:30 am: Pieces of countertops are laid in place.

11:45 am: Making seams and putting in a backsplash

12:02 pm: I'm trying to decide what to do about the double bowl sink and a faucet that may or may not actually work with the offset sink design.... To add to the stress level the painting guys just called to ask if the countertop guys were done yet. Nope. Couple more hours to go, they say.

1:10 pm: Dave came home for a few minutes to help decide what to do about the faucet/offset sink crisis. We finally opted for having the counter guys drill four standard holes in our countertop today... We don't know what faucet will fit properly just yet -- but we want to leave our options open for later and I'm sure we'll find some fixture that will fill all the holes eventually. But if we opted for only one hole today -- then later we would always be limited to a single-hole faucet.

3:34 pm: The sink has to dry for about 72 hours before any plumbing can be installed. No problem -- it's gonna be longer than 72 hours before we can find a plumber.

The countertop guys are gone now and the counters are done. They look good and the color is exactly what I was hoping it would be. The design of this counter is quite different from what we had before. There's no fold-over overhang to hide flaws near the top of the cabinets this time. Not that there are a lot of flaws or anything (only one sizable piece missing from the trim on the island which we'll have to fix) but I think it would just look more finished if we add some wood trim along the underside of the counters against the cabinets now.... We'll make more decisions about that later...

Now Dean and his crew are here working on odds and ends for the rest of the afternoon. On the to do list: install new kick moulding under cabinets, paint paint paint cabinets and shelves, trim, and doors, install crown moulding in pantry, make and install shelf for kitchen closet, make and install missing shelves in pantry.

4:30 pm: The kick moulding is in - if you look closely, you can't see it at all. That's the idea -- I had it painted black. :)

I got to see the counters for a few minutes before they got covered with contractor's paper to keep them safe from paint spills....

5:35 pm: Everyone is gone now and it's time for getting kids and cats and puppies settled.

The bottom shelves are finally replaced in the pantry.
