The Sun Herald | 10/24/2006 | 421 days: "A great deal of South Mississippi was spared - thank God - the ravages of Katrina's winds and storm surge. There are areas - both residential and commercial - that rebounded almost immediately.

Those who live and work in those lucky homes and businesses mark the passage of time differently. For some of them, it is time for the less lucky to move on.

That is why, not regularly, but as often as necessary, we visit Old Town Bay St. Louis or what's left of downtown Pass Christian or the Pascagoula waterfront. And we rekindle our determination, not to get over it, but to go on with the task of fixing it.

We don't want to wallow in ruin. But we also do not want to ignore the damage that has been done in the false hope that it will simply fade away."
