Uh.. Three hundred mile-per-hour winds? What exactly are these guys expecting to hit us next? The building they are replacing did not suffer mostly from wind damage, fire damage, or even high energy costs. What they need.. is a flood proof building.
The last couple of days I have felt like we're waking up from a deep but troubled sleep. Last night we loaded up the tribe and drove to Lowe's to order countertops for our laundry room cabinets...
And this morning we fearlessly loaded everyone up repeatedly for our ritual Friday errands. Not only that but we found the time and the stomach to stop every now and then to snap a picture or just look around us.
Maybe the finished sheetrock did do something afterall.
We visited with Mom later in the afternoon and briefly went over our plans for a picnic tomorrow morning -- planning even more loading of the family and gear in and out of the car, of course.
After the visit we took a ride down to the point to look for crabs or seagulls or something that Yvonne and the boys might like to see. Dave stopped where the land met sound and asked me if I'd like to get out and wander on the rocks. The boys and I must have been out there ten minutes or more before I realized what we were standing on: slabs. These were the demolished slabs from people's homes -- being recycled here on the shore. It did give the scene an eerie feeling -- but I must admit the view was still nothing to shake a stick at.

We have waited patiently all day for the children to finally get tired enough to go to sleep so we could have time alone together as adults... as adults who need to texture and prime new sheetrock. We're planning on touching up the laundry room and then texturing and painting the kitchen closet. That will leave tomorrow for texturing and priming the kitchen pantry (which we won't complete for a little while longer since that would involve actually emptying the pantry... I don't want to empty the pantry. Besides, we still need to remove the mortar on the floor in there and have at least two shelves to replace. The motivation for all of that is still a few weekends away, I'm afraid.) and then we'll move into the garage and start painting.
