I spent way too much time this morning trying to think of a fitting blog entry to mark one year since Katrina. I have to admit that I was super-sensitive to the time as well...
9:00 am -- last year I was making biscuits....
10:00 am -- last year we were upstairs watching the world float by and quite sure we were going to die...
I still couldn't think of anything to write though.
I sat down to watch some of the local coverage of the anniversary on the news -- but the babies wanted to watch Mr. Rogers. No inspiration there, I'm afraid.
I was seriously thinking about letting the whole thing quietly slip by on the blog...
Then the mail came. And the big Priority Mail package (postmarked yesterday) came:
"Mississippi's Homeowner Assistance Program (HAP) proudly reports that you are eligible to receive a grant award for XXXX Gallery St, Pascagoula, MS 39581 (JACKSON County)."
The grant is only dollars shy of exactly the amount we were hoping and praying for - and I would be a dirty liar if I were to say that I am not thrilled.
Sure - we have to go through the process of actually getting the money now... And I'm sure there will be headaches ahead... but at this moment -- I prefer not to care.
Thank you to everybody and anybody even marginally involved. Today we get to look forward instead of back. Thank you.

I have been following your blog since almost the very beginning, referred from the SH site, way back when you were distributing blankets. :) I was so happy to read your post today. What a fitting way to commemorate this anniversary.
Congratulations to you and yours. Best Wishes,
deb
I've been praying daily that I would get this very posting. Good luck in your future.
To reiterate what I said to you this morning when you typed you got the grant......yayyyyyyyyyyyy!
I'm still grinning over this grant news! Just for today, I will refrain from calling Bush, FEMA, and a host of others names....
Hugs,
Swapna
What timing! I'm happy it finally came through!
