I went to your www.vasavana.blogspot.com! You really take the icing off the cake with your lies!!! I will have you know that I lived in Hattiesburg, MS and you have know idea what went on there. I had to wait in lines with my 5 year old son to be turned away everyday!!!!! To wait in lines to get food, and water. We had no power for a week!!!! So what the he@@ do you think you are? We saw people getting robbed, people dying because of the heat, people getting shot over a bag of ice, and so much more that I really do not want to remember!!! You have truly openned my eyes to the crappy people out there stealing from the few things that FEMA and the red cross have to offer people like us that are really needing the assistance. You are a B@#ch!!!!!

I had noticed a sudden surge in visits to my blog referred by this particular entry at the SunHerald message boards. Now - I am assuming that the soul who composed this little tirade is under the assumption that I am the same person who initially posted the blog address on that forum... For some reason completely unknown to me it seems to be a bit of a 'sport' on the SunHerald forum to lay into said person when nothing else is going on. This is one of many, many reasons why I stopped even reading messages at that forum some time ago now....

Before I go on -- I would like to tell that lady... you know who you are... the one they call a scammer and a fraud... Thank you very much for the phone call putting me in touch with the gentleman from the Naval Base who had relief supplies to distribute. Unfortunately, all he had left by the time we reached him were donated clothing items -- which we were unable to take for distribution at the time. (We were already bogged down with clothing items -- they're very, very difficult to distribute in an area where most folks don't have a lot of closet space at the moment.) However - because of that phone call... the information provided... and the sound of your voice that day -- I know you are very concerned for your friends and family on the coast and I truly believe that you have been doing everything you can from where you are. Bless you.

Now - back to the tirade from the person from Hattiesburg. As I said, I am assuming that there is some confusion as to who actually owns this blog... But it actually doesn't matter.
Maybe she totally understands who we are and what we're doing... and (apparently) hates us for it.

I'm guessing that the poster did not read this blog -- as it should be read by new visitors -- from start to finish. Maybe she was put off by the pond? (For the record, I assure you that neither FEMA nor the Red Cross funded our pond project.) Somehow though, she managed to miss the photo of our neighborhood underwater prominently displayed to the right of the screen at all times. And I'm hoping she totally missed the obvious relationship between photographer (me) and the photographer's proximity to the floodwater in the photo (i.e. we were here when it happened).

I am completely torn between compassion and indignant confusion on this one....

It is correct that I have no idea what happened in Hattiesburg, MS. I was in Pascagoula at the time. If our cars had not both been submerged in salt water - we would have probably made a mad dash to Hattiesburg where long lines for food, water, and ice were said to have existed at the time...

I am truly sorry you had to wait in line for food with your five year old. I am aware of the long lines for food, water, and ice -- I heard about them... However, we weren't able to go stand in those lines with our four kids because we had no means of transportation to take us to the distribution centers. Of course, we're still waiting in long lines for food, water, and ice down here... You see -- only about a quarter of the folks who used to work here have returned to their jobs and it can take over two hours to simply pick up a few items from the grocery store. (Whichever grocery store actually remains...) I know though - it's a totally different situation from those early days: now we have to pay for the food, water, and ice.

I'm really sorry about not having power for a week... that's terribly inconvenient.

I do hope that you notified the proper authorities regarding witnessing a shooting. I would also suggest that you speak with a mental health professional about possible PTSD symptoms following such a traumatic experience. I didn't even witness any shootings and I'm jumpy as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

Also - if FEMA has not provided adequate assistance for you and your family, you should know that there is an appeals process. Retain your receipts and/or estimates from licensed contractors and include them with your letter of appeal. By the way - did the storm surge wipe your house off its foundation or are you just dealing with a totally gutted shell like we were?

If this rant was not intentionally directed at me and my family - then I am only partially sorry for my response. As I said before -- it doesn't actually matter. Over the last several months I have witnessed great acts of generosity and compassion by a few fantastic people... Unfortunately, I have also witnessed nasty acts of selfishness and spite by a great number more.

I know it's hard to fight the feelings of envy and rage when you're feeling hopeless and hungry and it seems like everybody is lined up at the buffet but you... I've struggled through many of those moods right here on the blog as my regular readers can attest. But what exactly do folks hope to accomplish with posts such as this?

It's times like these when I have a hard time mustering up the benefit of the doubt for humanity at large... I stop wondering why so little has been accomplished over the last few months in the aftermath of Katrina... I start questioning the 'super secret password' donation funds... I feel deeply disappointed that we aren't all holding hands and singing like I would like to imagine we could be...

*Sigh* I should get an early start for bed tonight... And I need to make sure I've got my rose-coloured glasses ready on the nightstand -- I'll be needing them when I wake up tomorrow.

((((hugs))))

Pay no attention to people like that. You and your family have been thru hell & highwater and back.

I've found that there are a lot of "wacky" people in those forums.

God Bless you Anita and your family. The person that wrote this is obviously not stable and it's to be expected. Tragedy unfortunately turns people against eachother. Rather then embracing one another they fight amongst themselves, rather then redirecting their anger to the appropriate target.

If the person that wrote that is reading this I pray for you and for your healing in your heart so that your anger will release and that you should not speak such mean things to those suffering like you are and many others.
