The kids wait for us to unload Emily outside Salvetti's in Ocean Springs, MS.

Pressed for time last night with Dave getting off from work so late and the kids' bedtimes approaching - we opted to go out to a restaurant to eat for Mardi Gras dinner.

Maybe it was because we had to configure four children of varying ages around a small round table in a corner of the restaurant -- or maybe it was because we have simply gotten used to such things -- but it was not until we were all seated and had already placed our order for drinks and an appetizer that I noticed the floors were bare concrete. Yvonne pointed to a picture above us on the second floor balcony where stud walls and a ceiling stripped to the rafters was apparent. Sigh. It really is going to be a long time before things are normal again.

We still enjoyed the dinner. I'm guessing that if we had not lived in worse conditions for several months ourselves we would have been horrified at the state of the restaurant... But after the initial discoveries we all ate without noticing again.

At least we got to visit with my mother for a while in Moss Point after dinner. The coffee was good, the company was great, and the walls and floors were intact. :)

I'm so glad you had a nice Mardi Gras dinner! And George's mini float is spectacular.

As for the whole Mardi Gras thing, I never really cared much about it, other than to think of you and wonder if you were having a wonderful time. This year was a bit different, as I was wondering if anyone could really enjoy Mardi Gras the same way they did in the past. Knowing you went out and didn't have to cook brings a smile to my face. The thought of you mamboing around your new floor also had me grinning.

Hugs,
