I love my kitties

I have a list of things to do today - but it's not all that promising...

First on the list is to hurry up and wait. For the crew to get here (or to at least get a phone call!) and start working on the siding and fascia. For someone to swing by and give us an estimate for installing baseboards & assorted casings and trim. For the glass place to get in touch to set up a time for coming in to install a new mirror in the master bathroom.

I do a lot more hurrying up and waiting than Dave does. It's not his fault - he's at work... But it's for exactly that reason that I have more of the waiting burden. Very often I have to wait for Dave to not be at work. Today I am waiting for a good time to ask him to run out and get the wall anchors so we can wait again for a day when he won't be at work when we can install the cabinets in the laundry room. I'm also waiting for him to have a free moment so I can send him with a shopping list to Lowe's for a thousand other seemingly insignificant items -- such as light switch plates & outlet covers.. new paint brushes for cutting in paint on touchup jobs... a few paint tray liners and more roller covers... and a new drain for the kitchen sink.

He did squeeze in the time yesterday to pick up some wood stain. That means I spent my morning using it. I'm trying to save an old dresser that took on a couple feet of water back in August. It was never a spectacular dresser -- but I always liked it. I picked it up in a flea market several years ago... It was big and bulky and made of wood.

I sanded off the mold and old stain over the weekend. I even did a pretty decent job of repairing the veneer that warped from the moisture. This morning I started staining.

It was a pretty day and I left the front door open for the cats to run in and out while I worked.

Does anyone out there see a flaw in this plan?

So I was thinking that the dresser would match the Saltillo tile nicely now with its rustic kitty pawprints and all of that... but then - I have no intention of putting the dresser in the laundry room. I'm hoping a little steel wool and a nice coat of varnish will take care of it... But then I'll have to figure out how to get dog hair (and most likely George's fingerprints too) out of wet varnish....

I love my kitties.

I left the cat prints to dry and took the afternoon off to visit with Mom. She's having her house painted this week and can't come out to visit us -- and it would just be wrong to not see her all day. Her painting crew actually showed up -- which is a miracle in itself... Good luck, Mom!!

Now comes the rush to wait even more AND try to keep the kids contained until Dave gets home.... We have to make it to church for Ash Wednesday and then find something meatless to feed the brood.

This means chances are pretty slim we'll be making it to Lowe's tonight to pick up those little irritating things.

You know, I saw this cool gold flake kit at Michaels on the weekend. You could get one of those and gold flake in the paw prints, and ask the kitties to make more. It would be kinda funky (probably not quite as funky as the billiards table).

You know it almost sounds tempting, Swap... Except I know I can't ask the kitties to do anything.

Actually I put a coat of varnish on it late last night and it covered the tracks nicely... But of course I left it out on the porch to dry which SHOULD have been okay - but didn't check the weather... The humidity is high and there is a fresh coat of dew all over the dresser now. We'll have to see how detrimental that was when it all dries out later. :p
