Kids & a Christmas Tree

George's third grade class traveled to Biloxi on December 1st to decorate the Christmas tree with Bishop Rodi. If you watch closely you can see George working hard to keep his ornament on the tree -- watch the video here. (Have a tissue handy!)

Resurrection Elementary sustained a lot of damage from Hurricane Katrina due to floodwaters reaching approximately 4 feet inside the school -- most of the contents of the school had to be discarded. (http://www.rcseagles.com/sotd/viewSOTD.asp?sotdID=772) But with the help of donations and volunteers from all over the country and families here at home -- they are on the road to recovery. Unfortunately, St. Peter the Apostle Elementary here in Pascagoula did not survive the storm (St. Peter the Apostle Catholic School demolished - Mississippi Press - December 8, 2005) and the sight of the empty slabs and piles of debris where the school and church once stood is utterly heart-wrenching. The St. Peter's students are now attending Resurrection and both of our boys have been happy for the new company.. especially at a time when some of the old familiar faces are absent.

The Diocese of Biloxi still needs help. For more information or to find out how you can help - please visit http://www.biloxidiocese.org/special/katrina/
