So here we are - the first day of December. A whole lot of our fellow coastians are going to have a particularly rough Christmas -- especially with four months worth of mortgage payments coming due this month.
Now that the 'grace period' has actually expired -- we are very very glad that we never took advantage of it. There isn't a whole lot of relief in our daily lives but at least today we can say we aren't behind on the mortgage.

not with Chase Mortgage! They want all their money now. I had to take out a loan to pay Oct-Dec housenotes. I'm not a happy camper.
That's almost what happened to us, judy! We had called for deferred payments just a couple weeks after Katrina and our mortgage company said "Yes absolutely don't worry about the payments for 90 days...." Well.. luckily for us, I guess.. the first day that we had mail service again, there was a letter of default waiting for us from the mortgage company. Wondering why we were in default if they had deferred our payments, my husband called right away. At that time they informed him that the three payments would be due in December along with December's payment. What kind of HELP is that?????
We knew we couldn't do it... We're having enough trouble paying the mortgage one month at a time right now -- so we immediately sent in our payment and have been doing so ever since.
What's sad is we tried telling people what our mortgage company said and they all said we must have misunderstood.. and that their mortgage company was deferring the payments properly. Many of those same people just found out that they're going to have to pay it all this month. Sigh.
Many hugs to you, judy. We'll get through this.
