Ballard's Old South Cornbread Mix & Me

I admit that I do check the sitemeter for my blog at least once a day. It's fairly interesting to see where visitors are coming from and all that other good stuff sitemeter tells me. In the process of doing so, however, I could not help but notice an oddly inflated number of visits from search engines. I mean, sure... there must be people out there looking for more information on Hurricane Katrina, right? It isn't all that odd, I suppose. Right! That's what I was thinking too.. until I started checking to find what search terms were entered. And this is what I have found:

Of the last dozen referrals from a search engine my blog has received - three were questions regarding Hurricane Katrina, one referred to Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson, and the rest were all searches on Ballard's Old South Cornbread Mix or some derivation of such.

This has been going on for a month now... at first it was amusing... Now it has become sort of dark & mysterious. Have I stumbled across some secret government codeword or do people really want this cornbread? I mean I know that I have searched for it many times before -- but then I'm just plain weird. The stuff is impossible to find and it's the only cornbread that will work for our family stuffing.... But just how many people could be in the same position out there?

I think we should start calling around in the morning -- to find out if the little cornbread factory that used to pump out the stuff is on the auction block yet... and make a bid! We can't go wrong really... if it does turn out to be nothing but a secret government codeword afterall -- at least we won't have to worry about finding the stuff for Thanksgiving next year...

Thanks, dunigan! It's true! I didn't come back to update the blog after Thanksgiving this year -- but I was thrilled to find boxes of Martha White White cornbread mix with a little badge on the front of the package that read "Same recipe as Ballards Old South". And from the taste of the oyster stuffing this year -- it's true!!

Good for my stuffing -- bad for my dreams of making a fortune selling cornbread mix.....
